Ask Rosie
Who are you Rosie?
I’m glad you asked. I am more than a so called mascot here at
Good Dog Boats. I am the on-going inspiration that keeps the Good Dog
team of humans working hard to build quality fishing boats… for
just like me your Good Dog boat is a great friend in the outdoors. Also,
by the way I am half lab/half cattle dog and live to fetch soccer balls.
How does the Good Dog compare with jon boats, canoes and
kayaks?
The Good Dog Boat has been specifically engineered to be an excellent
alternative to jon boats, canoes and kayaks for small water environments.
Your Good Dog boat is truly unique, there is no other boat like it
on the market. To see a summary of how a Good Dog boat compares with

Boat, Canoe, Kayak Comparison
What type of water is most suited to Good Dog boats?
Good Dog boats perform exceptionally well in small lakes and ponds.
Your Good Dog is light and maneuverable, so you can easily work around
submerged trees, grasses and weed beds that tend to be very productive
for fish. While maneuverable, the Good Dog glides and tracks very
very well, so it also is a great electric motor or row trolling boat.
Using your depth finder electronics you can establish a consistent
trolling pattern based on ledges, holes, lumps or other productive
structure along your lake bottom.
Can I stand-up to cast a fishing line in a Good Dog boat?
Yes, Good Dog boats are designed to be a versatile fishing tool. With
a 45inch beam, they are substantially more stable than a canoe. You
can stand-up and cast to precisely place your lure where a fish just
rose, or to work around obstructions like tree branches frequently
encountered along shorelines with productive fishing.
On many occasions I take a young child fishing, can I cartop
the Good Dog myself?
Yes, an important design criteria in developing the Good Dog was to
make it convenient to cartop, even by one person. To do this we designed
in two key features. First your Good Dog is the lightest boat in its
class weighing only 65lbs with the three webbed seats installed. Second,
we coat the entire transom with super-tough urethane. The urethane
coating enables you to slide your Good Dog off the back of your vehicle
and place the transom right on the parking lot without concern for
damaging your boat.
Why do you integrate Scotty® fishing accessories into
your boats?
We have found the Scotty® line of products to be without rival
in terms of both functionality and material quality. Their rod holders,
anchor locks, Downriggers and lure/cup holders are very useful additions
to your fishing gear. All four of these items securely and quickly
snap-in and snap-out of Scotty® bases that are built into your
Good Dog stern and bow decks, and that are pre-installed on your Good
Dog fishing platform accessories.
Why do you use Kevlar® in your hulls?
Every Good Dog boat hull has a complete layer of Kevlar. Kevlar is
an extremely tough lightweight material originally developed by Dupont
Corporation. Initially it was used in car and truck tires and now
has evolved to a wide range of applications that require a tough but
lightweight material. Applications include bullet proof vests, racing
car bodies and Good Dog boats. The primary reason we use Kevlar is
to give you the advantage of its tenacious puncture resistance.
Why does the Good Dog only come in a 10ft length?
At Good Dog boats we are committed to building small boats that truly
excel in small water fishing. For this reason, we decided to devote
100% of our research and develop effort into one size class. We selected
the 10ft hull class since it is small enough to maneuver well in small
water environments, can be solo cartopped and can be easily launched
without a boat ramp. Also it is large enough to glide and track well
through the water, has good stability and still has substantial gear
carrying capacity.
Does Good Dog Boats have dealers?
No, at Good Dog Boats we sell all our boats direct to you. The primary
reason we do this is to give you the lowest price possible. We have
worked hard to keep our overhead, sales and marketing costs low so
we can build Good Dog boats with high quality materials (such as Kevlar,
vinylester resin, high-grade fittings, super-tough urethane) and still
maintain an affordable price.
Do I have to purchase accessories with a boat purchase?
No, you may always purchase your Good Dog boat with the standard rig
that includes three webbed seats, an anchor lock and a rod holder,
and then purchase additional accessories at a later date. Additional
accessories that you may be interested in to increase your Good Dog’s
versatility include an electric motor system, fishing platforms, swivel
seats, additional rod holders and fish finding/depth sounding electronics.
However, we do not sell accessory items to non-Good Dog boat customers.
Can I install your electric motor system as an after-market
item?
Yes, all Good Dog boats come standard with conduit built into to the
keel that extends from the bow to the stern. Therefore at any point
you can easily add an electric motor system without substantial retrofit
of your boat. The electric motor system includes a battery platform,
battery box, cabling that runs inside the keel conduit and high-grade
Marinco connectors that enable you to securely and quickly plug-in
a transom-mount electric trolling motor.
Do you have boats in inventory available for immediate delivery?
Maybe. Please call to inquire. We try whenever possible to maintain
an inventory of Good Dog boats with the most popular colors.
